Project Description

The USAID Let’s Read Zambia project is a 6-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) ending on January 6th 2025 and implemented by the Education Development Center (EDC). USAID Let’s Read Zambia works to improve reading outcomes for children attending pre-primary (kindergarten) through to Grades 3 and provide professional development for teachers to support reading interventions in Zambian public and community schools.

Job Description

The Data Assistant will be based in the USAID Let’s Read Chipata, Eastern Province office. He/she will will work closely with project staff, as well as the Ministry of Education’s Provincial and District Teams to enter data from various source documents into the computer system for storage, processing, and data management purposes.

Essential functions include (but not limited to):

M&E Support Functions

  • Prepare, compile and sort documents for data entry.
  • Check/verify source documents for accuracy, correct, and update data where necessary.
  • Under the supervision of the POM, maintain data systems for provincial level data and information as needed. This will include, but not be limited to updating data sets for all project related activities; verification, scanning and uploading of any documents for trainings, book distribution, updated school profiles and other activities as assigned.
  • Enter data from source documents into prescribed computer database, files, and forms.
  • Scan documents into document management systems or databases.
  • Respond to requests for information and generate reports as required.
  • Comply with data integrity and security policies.

Administrative related work

  • Assist in compiling registration and attendance documentation (electronic and hard copies) at meetings and training events.
  • Assist in undertaking photocopying work at the office.
  • Assist in organizing and setting up venue and taking photos at event (workshops, trainings etc.)

Qualifications

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Educational level required: Minimum Diploma (development field);
  • Technical Training qualifications desired: Basic M&E and IT skills
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in data management, M&E

Other Preferred Skills:

  • computer skills, Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Very good English written communications skills including the ability to prepare reports;
  • Good knowledge of the local language of preferred duty station location;
  • Team player and ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and cope with pressing timelines;
  • Problem-solving & Time management skills
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities;

Additional Information

Language:

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of (and proficiency in) Chinyanja language highly preferred.
