Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed employee for the position of a Senior Accountant – Financial Accounting to join the versatile Finance team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Chief Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial reporting process and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role involves a combination of hands-on accounting tasks, financial analysis, and leadership responsibilities.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure that reconciliations of bank accounts are accurate and timely.  Follow up on reconciling items and resolve as per standard.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Coordinate Accounts Payable and ensure that an accurate and reliable database of creditors is maintained and ensure prompt payments to suppliers.
  • Supervise and ensure that Vendor reconciliations are correctly prepared, checked and, ensure that the Accounts Payable Supervisors are following up on reconciling items.
  • Supervise and ensure that the organisation’s payroll policies, procedures and standards are implemented effectively and, in a manner, consistent with the development of a payroll error free culture in the workforce’ salaries.
  • Conduct variance analysis to explain budget vs. actual results.
  • Assist in the development of financial forecasts and budgets.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis.
  • Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plans to achieve these gains (Cost saving initiatives).
  • Continually monitor costs whilst proactively identifying and implementing cost effective initiatives to optimize procurement and other expenditure within the company.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during financial audits and ensuring that all issues are dealt with in a timely manner.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Degree in Accounting
  • Professional Qualification such as ACCA / CIMA.
  • Member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants.
  • Significant experience (5 years) post graduate experience with preferably 2 years in mining in a commercial/ accounting role.
  • Sound understanding and experience of the principles and practice in accounting and contracts.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to subordinates.
