We’re looking for an Engineering rockstar for a poultry plant in Lusaka!
Join a team as a Senior Refrigeration Engineer in a poultry processing plant and lead engineering initiatives, manage projects, and optimize processes to ensure the efficiency, safety, and quality of the operations. With a focus on refrigeration systems, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in engineering and comprehensive knowledge of poultry processing operations. As a leader in engineering management, you will have the opportunity to drive process improvement, implement innovative solutions, and provide training and mentorship to engineering staff.
To excel in this position, you should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering roles within the poultry processing industry, with a strong focus on refrigeration systems. A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required, and an advanced degree would be highly valued. Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus together with a proven track record of successful project management, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
This is a leadership role where you’ll be the boss of the engineering crew. You’ll need to be a whiz at keeping the refrigerators running smoothly (ammonia experience is a must!), as well as a pro at all things poultry processing.
Your days will be filled with keeping things running efficiently, safely, and according to the rules. You’ll lead projects, find ways to make things work better, and make sure the equipment is always in tip-top shape. You’ll also be a champion for safety and quality, working with other teams to ensure top-notch chicken!
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Lead the engineering team and make sure they’re following all the best practices and safety rules.
- Be the master of the giant refrigerators, keeping them running perfectly and fixing any problems.
- Take charge of projects from start to finish, including planning, budgets, and getting the right people involved.
- Figure out ways to improve the processes so we can work faster and save money.
- Work with the quality assurance team to make sure everything are done to meets the highest standards.
- Set up plans to maintain all the equipment so it never breaks down.
- Fix any problems that come up with the equipment and get things running again quickly.
- Stay on top of all the latest poultry processing regulations and make sure it’s followed to the letter.
- Identify any potential hazards and come up with ways to keep everyone safe.
- Teach and guide your fellow engineers so they can keep learning and growing.
To be a good fit, you’ll need:
- A college degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, or something similar) – a master’s degree is even better!
- At least 10 years of experience working as an engineer in a poultry processing plant, especially with refrigerators.
- To know everything there is to know about refrigerators, air conditioning, cold storage, and freezing.
- A proven track record of leading projects successfully and on time, and within budget.
- To be familiar with the rules and regulations for poultry processing, like HACCP and OSHA.
- To be a great problem-solver who can figure out even the trickiest technical issues.
- To be a natural leader with excellent communication skills who can work well with all sorts of different people.
- An engineering license is a bonus!
