Road Development Agecy (RDA)
The Road Development Agency (RDA) is a statutory body whose function is to plan, manage and coordinate the road network in the country. The Agency is responsible for care, planning, maintenance and construction of public roads in Zambia. It also regulates the maximum permissible weights on roads, conducts studies for the development, maintenance and improvement of the road network, and reviews design standards and classification.
In order to implement this mandate, the Road Development Agency now wishes to fill up the following vacant positions:
WEIGHBRIDGE OPERATOR (15 POSITIONS)
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Weighbridge Supervisor, the job holder will be responsible for carrying out weighbridge operations in accordance with the Public Roads Act of 2002 as amended.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
a) Carrying out timely weighing of vehicles or combination of vehicles to determine the Axle Loads and Gross Vehicle Mass in order to ensure that the vehicles or combination of vehicles conform to the legal limits;
b) Carrying out timely measurement of the vehicles or combination of vehicles to determine the vehicle length in order to ensure that the vehicle or combination of vehicles conform to the legal limits. This includes the reporting of any irregular vehicle configurations;
c) Carrying out the detention of vehicles or combination of vehicles contravening the Axle Loads, Gross Vehicle Mass and vehicle length;
d) Carrying out routine inspections on the weighbridge so as to ensure that it is in good working condition before its usage;
e) Ensuring timely preparation and submission of weighbridge operations reports to facilitate reviewing of performance of the weighbridge operations and take remedial measures in case of mal administration of the weighbridge operations;
f) Ensuring adherence to safety rules and regulations at all times during operations.
g) Ensuring that all defective vehicles (Unsecured cargo) are reported to the Police where necessary;
h) Safekeeping and return in good condition and order all the property which may be assigned for use or custody;
i) After every fortnight all equipment directly or indirectly related to the operations must be cleaned at all costs to acceptable standards and checked;
j) Provide legal evidence to support allegation of overloading;
k) Ensuring that corruption and weighing errors are reduced at all times during and after weighbridge operations; and
l) Performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 School Certificate;
- Diploma/ Advanced Certificate in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Information and Communications Technology or related technical/engineering field from a well-established and recognized learning institution;
- Membership of an appropriate body such as Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ), Engineers Registration Board (ERB) etc; and
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant work experience;
Skills and Attributes
- Good team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with fellow members of staff and external stakeholders at all levels;
- Honest, sober character with ability to maintain high levels of integrity;
- Familiarity with the relevant Government procedures and regulations; and
- Good computer skills.
Successful candidates must be ready and willing to be posted to any station where the Agency operates Weighbridges.
