Job Description
Reporting directly to the Collector, you will be responsible for timely examining documents, verifying values and HS codes on imports and exports and ensuring correct revenue is brought to account as well as conducting Customs control and enforcement activities as directed.
Responsibility:
MAIN DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

Examining entries for determining classifications, values and origin;
Determining physical inspections of goods and motor vehicles for valuation and classification purposes;
Capturing and analysing scanner images as well as report challenges with scanner for prompt resolution;
Produce monthly report on scanner activities;
Extracting data on outstanding entries from the ASYCUDA in order to determine duties and taxes;
Planning and monitoring random compliance visits;
Verifying import and export documentation;
Examining excise duty returns and compliance with the provisions of the Act;
Supervising inspections of bonded warehouses with respect to set standards and customs procedures;
Ensuring control of imports and exports of prohibited and restricted goods in accordance with the provisions of the law;
Advising on COMESA/SADC rules of origin and recommends for certification;
Verifying import and export documentation;
Confirming values and HS Codes to conform to the Customs nomenclature;
Checking on eligibility for the goods presented for duty exemption;
Updating of bonded warehouses and Customs areas registers;
Conducting inspections of bonded warehouses;
Monitoring and issuing open declaration reports to agents to avoid expiry in bond and issue demand letters or seize goods where necessary;
Conducting post clearance audits;
Planning and supervising enforcement and compliance activities;
Preparing monthly Business Continuity Plan and daily Incidence reports;
Compiling bonds exceptional/status and monthly reports;
Providing daily updates of the electronic and manual registers for the yard and Customs warehouse;
Monitoring and organizing data on outstanding RIBs/RITs;
Compiling commodity and importer risk profiles;
Generating status reports on RsIB/RsIT for dissemination to concerned users and management; and
Ensuring effective use of Wider Area Network (WAN) for acquittals.

REQUIREMENTS

Grade Twelve School Certificate or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Equivalent;
Bachelor’s Degree in any field or any equivalent professional qualification; and
Knowledge of Chinese or French languages will be an added advantage.
