BLAST HOLE DRILL RIG MECHANIC
We are seeking an experienced and qualified Blast Hole Drill Rig Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy-duty blast hole drilling equipment operating in an open-cast mining environment.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Certifications
* Recognized Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic Trade Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
* Full Grade 12 School Certificate or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
* OEM certifications from manufacturers such as Sandvik, Epiroc (Atlas Copco), Schramm, or similar will be an added advantage.
* Hydraulic fitting and/or auto-electrical certifications are desirable.
Experience
* Minimum of 3–5 years’ proven experience maintaining and repairing blast hole drill rigs, rotary drills, or Down-the-Hole (DTH) drilling equipment in an open-cast mining environment.
Technical Competencies
* Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including fault diagnosis and repair.
* Sound understanding of heavy-duty diesel engines and associated systems.
* Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic control systems.
* Competence in reading and interpreting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics.
Safety & Compliance
* Valid First Aid Certificate and other relevant mining safety certifications.
* Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry procedures, and SHEQ requirements.
* Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Additional Requirements
* Valid driver’s license (Code EB or equivalent).
* Physically fit and able to work in demanding mining conditions.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to prepare maintenance reports and liaise effectively with operators and supervisors.
