Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in the Manufacturing Department to be based at Nakambala.

HANDYMAN WELDER – INSTRUMENTATION x 1 PERMANENT

MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)

This position reports to the Maintenance Foreman Instrumentation. The successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting instrumentation technicians and artisans select, install, fabricate, weld, fit, set up, test, fault find, repair, and maintain instrumentation and control systems and equipment across all areas of Zambia Sugar Plc.

Key Performance Areas

Optimise spares and other materials usage. Record all material/spares usage and inform superintendent about usage of critical material/spares and requirements in time, refer to critical material/spares list.

Making effective use of available material. Order the right number of required spares, do it right the first time.

Avoid re-work in all maintenance works. (Doing it right the first time).

Maintain sustainable professional relations with production supervisors and operators. Ask of the plant defects and communicate to your supervisor.

Attend to problems affecting safety and production in the section promptly. Inform findings which relates to safety to your supervisor and other business units. Safety defects, environmental and health deviations.

Observe all SHE policies and procedures when carrying out maintenance works. Ensuring all work areas and equipment around him/her are safe and are in compliant with procedures/policies and the Factories Act. Do a take five for every work you carry out. Separate litter to different designated areas and bins. Wear protective clothing at all times when for any task.

Execute planned and scheduled work efficiently and effectively and to acceptable quality standards. Follow JSAs on every task you do. You require Works orders for every task you would tackle, write feedback and submit to the superintendent.

Give accurate feedback of all maintenance works and ensuring that the feedback forms are lodged with the superintendent daily and work orders upon completion, accurately.

Assists on breakdowns, reliability maintenance and check lists as assigned by the superintendent, assist with carrying equipment to be used, handling valves and any other instrumentation equipment as asked by the technician/artisan.

Maintains work area clean and tidy all times. Blow FJBs, Termination cabinets LJBS, welding and fabrication areas.

Assist with stores function in collecting spares and check for newly arrived instruments equipment as coordinated by superintendent.

Ensures your own safety, other employees and machinery. Do pre task risk assessment/ take 5 for every work carried out.

Service the air reticulation equipment and motion sensors.

Install instruments equipment by fabricating stands, supporting structures and welding.

Carrying out piping works. Bending and fitting of stainless, galvanised and plastic fittings and pipes.

Carry out tasks as instructed by your line of report.

Ensure that all tools available are in good condition and well looked after with your welding machines and grinders.

Participate in development and follow a continuous personal competence development plan (understanding the structure of the plan, understanding responsibilities and obligations under the plan, meeting plan objectives, carrying out self-monitoring and reporting progress periodically).

Support development activities within the team. Attend to all training as may be require by your supervisor.Renders assistance to Assistants on technical aspects of instruments and process control.Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements areas

Grade 12 Certificate

Level 1/ Grade 5 Trade Certificate in Metal Fabrication/Welding

Repairing of air service auto drains

Servicing of Motion sensors

Rerpair and servicing of instrumentation valves

Experience in welding and fabrication will be an added advantage

Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia

Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
