The University of Lusaka invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions: Lecturer – Accounting & Finance, Lecturer – Human Resource Management, Sports Officer, Public Relations Officer, and Transport and Logistics Officer.

  1. PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

Purpose

The Public Relations Officer is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships between the University and its internal and external stakeholders. The role requires a thorough understanding of the University’s mission and vision to ensure effective communication of its goals and achievements in alignment with the Strategic Plan.

Summary of Job Responsibilities

  • Identify Public Relations (PR) opportunities to enhance and promote the University’s brand visibility and reputation.
  • Manage the University’s image, including coordinating and briefing journalists and photographers at key events, and ensuring all images used comply with university policies.
  • Serve as the lead writer for the University by collaborating with Management to develop and implement communication plans for both internal and external audiences. This includes drafting official correspondence, speeches, and presentations as assigned.
  • Work closely with the Information Technology (IT) team to compile, prepare, and publish web content.
  • Monitor emerging trends and advise Management on innovative strategies to strengthen the University’s online presence, including website optimization and social media engagement.
  • Develop and provide guidance on content aligned with the University’s strategy, including videos, images, and news features.
  • Support the Marketing team in the development and production of university publications such as magazines, brochures, flyers, and advertisements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute annual University events to foster engagement and strengthen networks both locally and internationally.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Advertising, Marketing, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage
  • Must be a member of a recognized professional body, such as the Zambia Public Relations Association (ZAPRA).
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing.

Key Qualities and skills:

  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in publishing newsletters and planning, organizing, and managing events.
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills, with the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and managing social media communication platforms.
  • Proficient in IT, including the use of social media, Microsoft Office applications, and the internet.

Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation in delivering communication initiatives.
