Background

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) is a statutory body created by the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of 2019 to regulate Zambia’s energy sector. The ERB is looking to hire a qualified and experienced Zambian national to fill the position of Assistant Management Accountant to be based at its Head Office in Lusaka.

Job Purpose
To assist in providing management with accurate and timely financial information on the financial position and performance of the ERB, and to support budgeting, expenditure monitoring, management reporting, cash flow monitoring and maintenance of management accounting records for planning and decision-making purposes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in collecting and compiling departmental budget inputs into a consolidated format for review and approval.
• Support the preparation of the consolidated ERB budget and assist in communicating approved budget guidelines to departments.
• Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and assist in preparing monthly variance reports for management review.
• Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly operational reports on income and expenditure by obtaining information from departments and regional offices.
• Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts for comparison of performance against budgets and prior years.
• Assist in compiling information required for annual reports following the external audit process.
• Review entries in the accounting system to help ensure accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial information used for reporting.

• Assist in monitoring cash flows and preparing information to support effective utilisation of financial resources.
• Maintain and safeguard management accounting records and documents for future reference.
• Liaise with departments and regional offices to obtain financial data required for budgeting, reporting and performance analysis.
• Prepare schedules, reconciliations and supporting analyses for management reporting and decision-making.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Required Skills
• Management Accounting Knowledge: Ability to support budgeting, expenditure monitoring, variance analysis and preparation of management accounts.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse financial information, identify variances and prepare supporting schedules for management review.
• Report Writing Skills: Ability to prepare clear financial reports, reconciliations and management accounting updates.
• Computer and Accounting Systems Skills: Ability to use accounting systems and spreadsheet applications to process, analyse and report financial information.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial records and reports.
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with departments and regional offices to obtain required information.
• Organisation Skills: Ability to organise work systematically and meet reporting deadlines.
• Professionalism: Ability to handle financial information confidentially and conduct duties with integrity.

Minimum Qualifications
. • Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) credits or better or equivalent.
• Diploma in Accountancy or equivalent accounting qualification or part qualified ACCA/ CIMA
• A degree in Accountancy and or Full ACCA/ CIMA, ZICA (CA) will be an added advantage
• Paid-up member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
. A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant work experience in a finance or accounting environment.
• Verification of all qualifications by ZAQA is required.
