Chief Executive Officer

Our client, an NGO established to support the growth of small and medium sized enterprises in Zambia, is looking to hire a Chief Executive Officer who will be responsible for managing the strategic, operational, financial and human capital objectives of the organization, whilst strictly adhering to corporate governance guidelines and compliance of risk management policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Organisational Leadership

Lead the company’s engagement with key stakeholders and be accountable to the company’s Board of Directors
Determine the strategic direction of the company as guided by the Board through development and implementation of a Board approved strategy
Ensure appropriate management structures, resources, skills and capacity of the team to deliver on the company vision, mission and strategy
Ensure achievement of the organisation’s strategy and objectives through effective and efficient programme delivery
Ensure adherence risk management practices including compliance and governance

Corporate Sustainability

Oversee the development and effective implementation of the Company’s Sustainability Plan
Monitor performance against defined corporate sustainability metrics
Actively seek and engage potential funders and strategic partners to ensure funding is consistently available to implement the company strategy
Ensure all requisite internal systems are developed and staff capacity is built for managing multiple projects
Ensure adequate resourcing of the organisation, effective cash flow management, and accountability for assets
Ensure that the organisation functions and achieves its objectives within the set financial parameters in line with the agreed strategy and budget
Ensure appropriate, accurate and timely financial and operational reporting to both internal (management/Board of Directors) and external stakeholders (clients, public and private partners)
Ensure all aspects of corporate governance, including a clearly defined enterprise risk management framework are observed

Programme Delivery

Ensure effective and efficient programme delivery, including high quality technical expertise
Ensure and rigorous programme evaluation including value for money. This must include effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate programme interventions, adjusting work as necessary to maximise value for money and impact.
Ensure consistently high quality operational management to support project delivery, including finance and administration, communications, information management, and other relevant systems.
Ensure effective team dynamics to enhance internal collaboration to support delivery.
Ensure a clear and effective stakeholder engagement with the Board, funders and key stakeholders.
People Management

Lead staff, articulating a clear vision, mobilising and motivating all staff to deliver that vision.
Setting the tone in leading by example, meaningfully engaging and respecting staff
Ensure strategies to attract, retain, motivate, and develop high calibre staff that is dedicated to delivering outstanding performance
Enable the achievement of the HR strategy through the HR lead.
Ensure the development and implementation of a strong performance management culture, promoting professional development and training for all staff
Build capacity of direct reports.
Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Masters degree in Economics, Business Administration, International Development, Finance, or related discipline from a reputable institution
At least ten (10) years of relevant professional experience
At least five (5) years of senior leadership experience
Experience working with investors, business leaders and with senior government officials
Demonstrable clear understanding of developing investments and businesses in Africa / Developing Countries
Experience managing donor-funded programmes related to private sector development will be an added advantage.
Strategic leadership and management skills
Good commercial and business acumen
Networking, presentation and public speaking skills
Team building (coaching & motivating of team leading to high performance)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Receptiveness – good listening skills
