The University of Lusaka is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill up the position of Clinical Officer
on full time basis at our Silverest Campus.
Clinical Officer (1)
Purpose
The Clinical Officer will provide advice, counselling and treatment (including emergency treatment) towards improving
the health of individual students and staff members. They will work closely with other multidisciplinary clinicians to
provide comprehensive health care services to students, members of staff and the surrounding community.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, one must have the following qualifications;
Medical Qualification
* Diploma in Clinical Medicine Sciences or equivalent.
* Degree in Clinical Medicine will be an added advantage
* Postgraduate qualifications in Public Health will be an added advantage
Clinical Experience
* Must have clinical experience in a large public hospital with large patient volumes.
* Must have three (3) years’ experience with a reputable institution.* Experience or work in private hospital will be an added advantage.
* Previous appointment at a level of Senior Clinical Officer or Medical Licentiate will be an added advantage.
* Knowledge and skills to manage emergency and non-emergency cases in General Medicine, Pediatrics and Child Health,
General Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynecology is an essential requirement for appointment
Professional Certification
* Certificate of Registration and a valid practicing license from the Health Professions Council of Zambia.
* Certificate of good standing from the HPCZ will be required.
Summary of Job Responsibilities
« Treating Students and Members of Staff according to standard treatment guidelines (MBHS guidelines, Zambia National
treatment guidelines, WHO treatment guidelines).
« Able to work with other clinicians to ensure comprehensive patient care.
« Handling of patient data / information confidentially always.
Keeping and maintaining complete and up to date client records in collaboration with the Ministry of Health guidelines.
« Taking history, examining, diagnosing, and treating patients’ common ailments at the outpatient health department.
« Receive and attend to patients who require emergency services.
« Appropriately refer or admit patients who require hospitalization or specialized services.
« Undertaking clinical checks on all treatment sheets and prescriptions for suitability of treatment.
« Sensitize students and members of staff, through health talks on preventive and promotive health.
« Perform clinical procedures within the rules and regulations consistent with the University’s procedures.
« Carry out all appropriate administrative responsibilities and participate fully in quality assurance processes within the
University.
