ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN ROLE
As an Electrical & Security Systems Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing a range of electrical and security infrastructure. Your core duties will include working with wiring, distribution boards, backup power systems, CCTV, access control, and fire alarm systems. You will also perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot faults to ensure minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN JOBS IN LUSAKA
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, distribution boards, and backup power systems such as generators and UPS units.
Deploy and configure IP and analog CCTV cameras, including NVR/DVR R storage setup, to secure perimeter surveillance.
Install and service access control systems including biometric readers, card/fob readers, and turnstiles to manage secure entry.
Set up fire fire alarm systems by installing smoke and heat detectors, manual call points, and integrating alarm panels with emergency protocols. Conduct scheduled inspections, testing, and calibration of all electrical and security systems as part of preventive maintenance. Diagnose and resolve faults using specialized test equipment and software tools to reduce operational downtime.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Craft or Technician Certificate, or Advanced Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is mandatory.
Three to five years of practical experience in electrical and security systems installation and maintenance.
Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, schematics, and load balancing principles.
Proficiency with CCTV design tools, IP networking, and storage planning.
Familiarity with access control systems such as Dormakaba, Dahua, Hikvision, or equivalents.
Ability to integrate fire alarm systems with building management systems.
Clear communication skills for reporting to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
OSHA Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Electrical Safety certification is an advantage.
Additional training in CCTV design, fire alarm installation, or access control integration is preferred.
