SOS Children’s Villages Zambia is a child focused organization and an affiliate of the SOS Children Villages International. It is non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational, and non-racial. Its overall mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the under listed job position in the organization.

1) General Worker – Lusaka (1)

Objective

Responsible for maintaining and developing the facility ground in order to create a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing environment for operation.

Key tasks and responsibilities

a) Creates a Beautiful Environment for the Facility

Plants, tends and waters all trees, shrubs, flower-beds, rockeries and lawns within the Facility grounds.
Replaces dead plants and discards waste matter in a neat and orderly manner.
Picks up and discard any litter found in gardens.
Recommends possible alterations to the supervisor.

b) Promote Respect of & Care for the Environment

Encourages members of staff to respect and care for the environment.
Promotes the conservation of natural resources
Cultivates indigenous trees, shrubs and flowers.
Ensures that the Facility grounds are kept at a modest standard, which is neat, tidy and easy to maintain.

c) Creates a Good Public Image

Cleans public areas of the Facility, including, car parking areas, paving and pathways.
Keeps garden store in a neat and orderly condition.
Maintains all garden tools and equipment in good working order.

d) Acts as a Role Model for Children

Presents a caring and understanding figure to the children.
Carries out all duties in an exemplary manner

e) General

Performs all repairs in liaison with supervisor and Facility Head
Performs any other reasonable and lawful duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Reporting lines

Reports directly to the Location Village Foreman

Qualifications and experience

Full Grade 12 School Certificate,
Craft certificate in metal fabrication, electrical, plumbing or related field will be an added advantage
At least 2 years of work experience as a General Worker in a reputable organization

Competencies and personality

Child friendly

Horticultural knowledge
Craft and maintenance works experience
