Our client, a leading player in the FMCG sector, is seeking a highly driven and results-oriented Junior Accountant. The ideal candidate will be responsible for Supporting accounting initiatives that drive revenue growth and ensure customer satisfaction.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Junior Accountant to support the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The ideal candidate will bring strong foundational accounting knowledge, technical software proficiency, and a commitment to accuracy and integrity in handling sensitive financial data.
Core Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping & Data Entry: Posting journal entries and keeping the general ledger updated.
- Accounts Handling: Managing accounts payable (vendor invoices) and accounts receivable (client billing).
- Reconciliations: Performing monthly bank, supplier, and sales reconciliations to identify discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting: Assisting in the preparation of weekly, monthly, and end-of-year financial statements.
- Statutory Compliance: Assisting with tax preparation, filing regular returns, and processing payroll.
- Audit Support: Organizing documentation and pulling records to support internal and external auditors
Educational & Professional Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma: A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Commerce.
- ZAQA Verification (MANDATORY): Candidates must have their academic results verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
- Professional Certifications: Being part-qualified or holding introductory levels of global/local accounting bodies (e.g., ZICA Technician/Licentiate level, ACCA Knowledge/Skills level, or CIMA foundational levels).
- Experience: Typically ranges from 0 to 3 years of experience in an internship, bookkeeping, or basic clerical role.
Technical Skill Set
- Software Competency: Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage.
- Advanced Excel: Masterful command over spreadsheets, VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and basic financial data modeling.
- Core Accounting Knowledge: A deep, accurate understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, accrual vs. cash principles, and the matching principle.
Soft Skills & Traits
- Meticulous Accuracy: Strong attention to detail to catch errors before they affect larger financial reports.
- Time Management: Ability to organize tasks systematically to meet weekly, monthly, and tax-season deadlines.
- Integrity: High level of discretion and ethical conduct when handling sensitive corporate financial information.
