Background
USAID has mandated John Snow Health Zambia (JSH), JSI (John Snow Inc.), and CHAZ (Churches Association of Zambia) to support the Government of the Republic of Zambia in the implementation of next-generation Electronic Logistics Management Information Systems (eLMIS) through the Electronic Supply Chain Management Information Systems (eSCMIS) Project. This initiative aims to increase the use of health services, reduce disease burden, and improve quality of life by ensuring that adequate quantities and quality of health commodities are available in health facilities to meet patient/client demand. One of the key activities is to scale up the implementation of eLMIS and provide the necessary technical support. The project will also facilitate private sector engagement and capacity building for the transfer of its activities to the Ministry of Health. Description
JSH seeks a dynamic and highly experienced candidate for the position of Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist to be based in Lusaka, Zambia. The Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist will report to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) and help in the achievement of project goals and objectives. S/he will execute a communications strategy through which project results and achievements will be communicated at key communication opportunities in a timely manner for a wide variety of audiences, including project partners and stakeholders

Responsibilities

Understand the donor’s communications and outreach strategy and expected project contributions; liaise with donors through the Chief of Party to regularly provide program information to support their communications and outreach objectives.
Create and implement a communications strategy for the eSCMIS project in Zambia to ensure the successful dissemination of materials such as newsletters, success stories, and best practices, program one-pagers, technical manuals and curricula, reports, project news, and other documents as outlined in the communications strategy to reach key audiences and/or identified by the directors within established deadlines, using various media platforms such as JSH, JSI, MOH and USAID media platforms.
Develop a content strategy and regularly contribute eSCMIS news and communications material to the JSH and JSI websites and social media platforms.
Work in close collaboration with technical staff and the communications team in the affiliate organization in the U.S. to ensure the creation of appropriate messaging, content, and high-quality production of all communications materials.
Gather, compile, and disseminate data and information from technical staff and stakeholders at the MOH, Zambia Medicines & Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), donors and implementing partners; plan and coordinate all editorial, public awareness activities and logistics for the production of these communications materials in close collaboration with the JSI communications team in the U.S. paying close attention to audience preferences for receiving information.
Track all relevant international, regional, and national conferences and support program staff to develop abstracts; manage and coordinate program conferences and other high-profile events.
Maintain an e-filing system/database that stores and tracks project documents and publications.
Ensure all communications and project materials are branded following USAID and eSCMIS project guidelines.
Work with the admin team and relevant technical staff to plan high-profile events.
Coordinate in-house training sessions for project staff regarding the importance of communication and documentation, writing success stories and integrating communications into their work.
Coordinate timely printing and distribution of quality communication materials.
Coordinate photography among staff and act as project photographer and videographer at project events and during site visits, ensuring all photographs have an accompanying consent form and captioned.
Regularly gather information, format, and edit project success stories for publication.
Make sure all project-branded items are produced according to the JSH and donor brand and marking guidelines.
Support development, format, and copy-edit project reports and other project documents.

Qualifications
Degree in Communications or Journalism and/or appropriate training with experience in communications / technical writing, preferably in public health or related area.
Minimum 3 – 5 years of relevant work experience.
Experience in international development, public health, or non-profit setting in communications or information dissemination.
Creating social media posts and writing for the web for non-technical audiences.
An eye for a good story and the ability to turn complex concepts into engaging content.
Experience in technical writing (graphic design skillset would be an added advantage).
Demonstrated skills and experience in communications and public relations.
Ability to work independently within a multi-cultural team in a fast-paced environment, managing several assignments and meeting deadlines.
Proficiency in computer packages relevant to the work (MS Office including Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, or other Design Programs) and content management systems.
Ability to produce well-written documents in the English language is a must.
Excellent organizational skills.
A team player.
Desirable Attributes
Knowledge of print, web, graphics, and email dissemination.
Familiarity with HIV/AIDS in Zambia
Ability to prepare and present health and supply chain-related information.
Experience working with the Government of Zambia, i.e., the Ministry of Health and NGOs.
Previous work experience with USAID-funded projects is an added advantage.
Supervision and Reporting:
The Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist will work under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Chief of Party
