2. JOB TITLE: LECTURER, NEW TESTAMENT (1 POSITION) FULL TIME
LOCATION: JUSTO MWALE UNIVERSITY, LUSAKA
Report to the Dean of School
JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for teaching, conducting research and carrying out other academic related and administrative duties within a specialist subject area.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General duties
• To conduct innovative competitive research
• Develop responsible teaching materials for all courses taught
• Teach students and deliver lectures in Biblical Studies, New Testament and Greek
• Lecture planning, preparation and research.
• Contact and teaching time with students.
• Checking and assessing students’ work.
• Encouraging personal development via tutorial and pastoral work.
• Invigilating examinations.
• Attending staff meetings.
• General administration.
• Writing research proposals, papers and other publications.
• Supervising Undergraduate students and research staff.
• Attending and speaking at conferences and seminars.
• Preparing bids for funding for departmental research projects
• Any other duties that may be assigned by the Dean of School of Theology & Religion.
Teaching Delivery
• Plan and implement coherent, well-sequenced teaching and learning programs that engage students and promote learning;
• Use a range of teaching strategies to deliver quality teaching programs that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students;
• Use effective verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to support student understanding, engagement and achievement;
• Use continuous assessment and exams feedback to inform teaching practice;
• Create inclusive, supportive learning environments;
• Expect a quest for excellence and demand appropriate outcomes from each student.
Assessment and Reporting
• Adhere to JMU’s assessment and reporting policies and practices;
• Utilize feedback to continually improve assessment practices;
• Develop, select and use formal and informal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning;
• Prepare timely and meaningful feedback, reports and notifications to students and their respective sponsors;
• Maintain clear records pertaining to student progress and assessment.
Pastoral Care
• Participate in the pastoral care program and other co-curricular activities of JMU;
• Model a Christian example in all activities;
• Communicate with students, colleagues and others in the university community in a respectful, clear, caring and professional way;
• Establish rapport with students and provide ongoing encouragement;
• Maintain professional confidentiality on information about students;
• Provide professional support to colleagues in all areas of university life;
• Communicate confidentially with appropriate senior staff any issues of perceived danger to a student.
Policy Implementation
• Contribute to and implement JMU policies and practices in a developmentally appropriate manner with special regard to the development of the Open Distance Learning program;
• Incorporate strategies to promote the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching;
• Support and promote the Christian ethos of JMU;
• Comply with relevant legislation requirements, codes of ethics and conduct established by regulatory authorities, systems and JMU.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Full grade 12 certificate or its equivalent;
• Bachelor’s degree in Theology or in a related field.
• Master’s degree (New Testament) Ph.D. in New Testament shall be an added advantage.
• At least two (3) years teaching or research experience at College or University level.
• Minimum of 3 work experience years in a similar position.
• Teaching Methodology is a mast have.
• Must have proof of some publications.
• Must be computer literate.
