Job Description

Position: Commercial Solutions Architect (or Commercial Technical Consultant) Reporting to: Commercial Director / Managing Director Location: Lusaka, Zambia (with local travel as needed).

Role Overview: This role serves as the crucial bridge between MBS Zambia’s software development capabilities and the client’s business needs. While the junior marketer acts as the “Door Opener” (generating leads and setting up initial meetings), this candidate acts as the “Closer and Architect.” They will step into meetings with mid-to-large enterprises, establish immediate technical credibility, decode the client’s pain points, and design compelling, costed software solutions that win tenders and contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Sales & Pitching: Accompany the marketing/sales team to client meetings to serve as the technical authority. Translate complex software concepts into clear business value for C-level executives and decision-makers.
  • Tender & Bid Management: Take the lead on responding to RFPs (Request for Proposals) and government/corporate tenders. Draft compelling technical proposals, project scope outlines, and preliminary system architectures.
  • Requirements Gathering: Conduct discovery workshops with prospective clients to map out their business processes and identify how custom software solutions can solve their specific challenges.

Requirements & Skills

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field coupled with a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
    • OR a relevant technical Diploma coupled with a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Industry Background: Experience in the tech industry, ideally transitioning from a developer/engineer role into a client-facing, pre-sales, or consulting role.
  • Tender Experience: Familiarity with or a strong willingness to master the corporate and public sector procurement proc

  • The “Gravitas” Factor: Must possess the professional maturity and confidence to command a room of senior executives and instill trust in MBS Zambia’s ability to deliver.
  • Bilingual in “Tech” and “Business”: Ability to talk server loads and database structures with a client’s IT team, and then pivot to talk ROI, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation with the CEO/CFO.
  • Commercial Acumen: Understands pricing models, profit margins, and negotiation tactics. Knows how to balance delivering client value with maintaining profitability for MBS.
