Principal Officer

Our client, a Short-Term Commercial Insurance business in Zambia is seeking to hire a Principal Officer. This is primarily a Business Development role whose purpose will be to develop the strategy, tactics, sales plans and profit targets; identifying and reporting on business opportunities in target markets and various stakeholder engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

To take responsibility for the relationships with Brokers, Referral, and other business partners.
To think strategically and create new opportunities, as well as the operational understanding to ensure delivery on those opportunities to the benefit of the business unit as well as the wider Commercial and Personal Business.
To set and drive a high-performance culture.
To build strategic and operational alliances with business units within the business and the wider group.
To keep all stakeholders abreast of legislative changes by regulatory bodies and the opportunities they may bring in the Business and for Partners.
To deliver results in a matrix organisation.
To develop, align and implement strategic direction based on the Business’ objectives.
To take overall responsibility for developing, managing and implementing competitive sales and marketing strategies
To develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve revenue targets and expand our customer base.
To expand distribution channels and increase revenue generation opportunities
To recruit and manage sales and administration support teams.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Commerce;
A qualification from a recognised Insurance Educator is an added advantage;
Should have at least 10+ years of industry experience with at least 3 of those years in a business development role at Middle Management level;
Must be able to demonstrate their good standing with the Pensions and Insurance Authority (insurance Regulator) with proof of solvency and character references;
Must be able to produce results that drive the bottom line;
Must be able to understand and interpret financial and management accounting reports;
Should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the short-term insurance product and consumer trends for these products;
Should be flexible and adaptable to working in an environment of diversity and result orientation;
Should have demonstrable analytical and numeric skills;
Should have demonstrable business acumen and experience with insurance products;
Should be able to effectively lead a team.
