Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following
positions in the University of Zambia Library at the University of Zambia:
1. JOB TITLE: SENIOR LIBRARIAN – 4 POSITIONS
PURPOSE:
Responsible for coordination, development and management of specialized services, projects, programmes, and policies for effective and efficient running of the University Library including branch libraries.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/review of work manuals and procedures and related documents;
• Participating in strategic planning and priority setting; provides leadership in developing a broad range of activities including budgeting needs of the libraries;
• Implementing the provisions of the University Library Strategic Plan;
• Participating in teaching academic courses in the area of specialisation at the postgraduate level;
• Designing information literacy programmes for students;
• Promoting the use of information and communications technologies as an information resource:
• Collaborating with librarians, faculty and other partners to develop, deliver, integrate
and assess the impact of library services and resources;
• Conducting research, conference presentations and publishing research papers, books and other related scholarly works;
• Serving as an information consultant in specialized areas of library and information science:
• Servicing the library and university through participation on various committees, task forces, board of studies;
• Participating in the preparation of statistical, quarterly and annual operational performance reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent,
• Bachelor of Library and Information Science or related field
• Master of Library and Information Science or related field PhD in a related field;
• At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college or university level;
• Must be Computer Literate,
• Must have substantial Publications; and
• Must be a member of the Library Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ)
