Dental Therapist
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Clinical patient care: Perform routine dental examinations, scale and polish teeth, apply fluuride treatments, and place fissure sealants.
Restorative procedures: Prepare and place fillings (restorations) in both primary and permanent teeth and perform simple extractions under standard protocols.
Appliance design and fabrication: Construct, adjust, and repair custom dental devices such as full and partial dentures, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances based on a dentist’s prescription.
Diagnostic support: Take dental impressions, pour accurate casts or digital models of patients’ mouths, and capture dental radiographs (X-rays).
Patient education: Teach proper oral hygiene strategies and preventive care routines to individual and community groups.
Laboratory and clinic safety: Maintain strict infection control standards, sterilize instruments, manage material inventories, and ensure equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. Interprofessional collaboration: Work closely with dentists, dental surgeons, and other healthcare specialists to coordinate comprehensive rehabilitation and treatment plans.
EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Full grade XII school certificate or equivalent
Diploma in Dental Therapy
Full registration with HPCZ
One year post qualifying experience
Team worker with good interpersonal communication skills.
