The SHEQ function is responsible for establishing, implementing, and sustaining an integrated Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality management framework across operations, ensuring statutory compliance, risk reduction, and protection of employees, contractors, the environment, and company assets. The head of SHEQ will be required to lead and manage the overall Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) function at MEL, ensuring the highest standards of occupational health and safety, environmental stewardship, quality management, and full compliance with all applicable statutory and international standards.
Job Description
- Plan and manage SHEQ departmental resources (financial, human, and operational) to ensure effective delivery of SHEQ objectives.
- Contribute to senior management decision- making by advising the CEO on SHEQ risks, trends, and strategic priorities.
- Develop, implement, review, and continuously improve the Integrated SHEQ Management System
- Maintain all SHEQ records in line with statutory and internal requirements.
- Guide, mentor, and supervise departments in implementing SHEQ requirements across all MEL operations.
- Review, update, and implement MEL Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality policies, ensuring approval by the CEO
- Ensure implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, ensuring effective control measures are implemented.
- Drive a ZERO accident / incident culture aligned with Visible Felt Leadership principles.
- Monitor SHEQ performance through inspections, audits, and performance analysis
- Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual SHEQ reports for management and regulators.
- Build SHEQ capability through mentoring, coaching, and skills development of subordinates.
