BACKGROUND
Kafue Gorge Lower Power Development Corporation Limited (KGL) is domiciled in Chikankata District, Southern Province of Zambia, and is engaged in power generation. In this regard, KGL invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position:

POSITION: WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATORS (2)

REPORTING TO: SHIFT CHARGE TECHNOLOGIST/ENGINEER

GRADE: KGN3

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Perform routine maintenance work on pumps, valves, feeders, and related equipment.

• Perform building and facility maintenance and custodial tasks.
• Read and interpret meters, gauges, and instruments; enter daily readings into databases or spreadsheets.
• Collect water samples and perform water testing.
• Prepare and maintain work records, work orders, maintenance and repair logs, and other records and documentation.
• Perform inspections of the plant and monitor water treatment processes such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection in accordance with ZEMA and WHO water quality standards.
• Operate valves, gates, and pumps to adjust water flow and chemical injection rates.
• Monitor all sites in the water reticulation system, including operating equipment, reading flow levels, inspecting equipment, identifying equipment problems, and making minor repairs and adjustments.
• Propose basic treatment and operational changes to water treatment processes and distribution systems to meet water quality standards.
• Assist with inspecting, testing, and evaluating incoming supplies, materials, and equipment related to water treatment.
• Support KGL’s policies, goals, and objectives, and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.
• Adhere to safety regulations, handle hazardous materials safely, and utilize lock-out/tag-out procedures.
• Respond to emergency situations and operational issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
• Propose budgetary inputs and requirements related to water reticulation.
• Work with SHERQ and the Environmental Officer to ensure that facilities comply with environmental, health, safety, and security requirements.
• Attend plant safety meetings and follow all safety rules and regulations.
• Provide emergency after-hours support (call-out) and standby duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
• Craft certificate in Water Operations and Supply or equivalent from a recognised institution.
• At least 2 years of experience operating water treatment facilities or working in similar industrial environments.
• Strong understanding of water treatment processes, chemical handling, and safety protocols. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to organise, schedule, and coordinate work.

TENURE OF EMPLOYMENT
• Permanent and pensionable.
